IEBC publishes list of nominated candidates, polling stations ahead of by-elections

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has stepped up preparations for the by-elections scheduled for November 27, 2025, releasing official Gazette Notices detailing every aspect of the mini-polls.
The notices, published on Friday, October 31, cover the full list of nominated candidates, locations of polling stations, tallying centres, and areas where elections will not take place due to uncontested seats.

In a notable update, Mitkei and Tembelio Wards were declared uncontested, meaning the candidates nominated in these areas will automatically take office without a vote.
The Commission clarified that this decision follows its mandate to ensure transparency and avoid unnecessary polls where competition is absent.
All campaign activities for the by-elections began on October 8 and will continue until November 24. Candidates and political parties must end campaigning 48 hours before the voting day, as mandated by the electoral regulations.
The IEBC also stressed the importance of adhering to the Electoral Code of Conduct, calling on all participants to maintain peace and respect the process.
“All Candidates and participating political parties are required to adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct throughout this period. The Commission remains resolute in its mandate to uphold and strengthen Kenya’s democracy,” the IEBC added.
The electoral body further issued a stern warning against voter intimidation, bribery, or violence, noting that any violations would result in legal action.
The by-elections are seen as an early gauge of political support ahead of the 2027 General Election, attracting attention from parties and observers alike.
The IEBC has made the Gazette Notices publicly available on its official website to ensure openness.
